Rainbow Ward is seeking proactive and enthusiastic Band 5 nurses to join the WWL family on our friendly Children’s Ward. The ward has recently benefited from investments to create a sensory zone and a Teen Zone, providing age-appropriate spaces for our patients.
Rainbow Ward is a 34-bedded integrated paediatric unit, including a 2-bedded HDU, caring for children aged 0–16 years with medical and surgical needs. This offers staff a diverse range of patients to work with — no two days are ever the same!
We are recruiting for a 36-hour post with a working pattern across 7 days (internal rotation). NHS employees should ideally secure their manager’s agreement for a secondment arrangement prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave, ending in 10 months or upon the return of the substantive postholder. Although advertised as an acting/secondment role, there is potential for this post to become permanent in the future.
In exchange for your dedication, we offer a comprehensive preceptorship package, including medicines management training (including intravenous medications) and two mandatory paediatric study days within a rolling twelve-month period. Further development opportunities include mentoring students from UCLAN and Edgehill as they pursue careers as student nurses or nurse associates.
Each Band 5 nurse is encouraged to pursue a specialist interest, such as diabetes or asthma. Nurses will also have the opportunity to complete APLS training, subject to having completed two years post-qualification training.
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital and community services to Wigan Borough and surrounding areas. We value our staff, believing that "happy staff makes for happy patients." We have a proven track record in staff engagement and uphold our core values.
WWL is committed to patient-centered care, ensuring safety, effectiveness, and dignity. We seek individuals who share these values.
Senior positions (Band 8a and above) may participate in an on-call rota.
