Your future plans
The Solid Fuels Desk is responsible for global coal, freight and biomass trading, including sourcing of steam coal and biomass for the RWE coal generation assets in the UK and continental Europe. The Freight Logistics team manages physical dry bulk vessel charter contracts and acts as the main contact for operational matters.
The role aims to optimize fleet efficiency through voyage data analysis, performance assessment, and negotiating claims. It includes monitoring fuel consumption, speed, hull efficiency, and supporting contract performance to contribute to the Dry Bulk Freight Trading desk.
* Data Analysis and Reporting: analyze voyage data, fuel consumption, speed, and other metrics to assess vessel performance
* Review, interpret, and apply contract clauses to statements of account and performance claims
* Prepare and negotiate methodologies with counterparties for performance deductions
* Liaise with legal and P&I Club on unresolved claims
* Evaluate vessel performance against criteria like fuel efficiency, voyage duration, and emissions
* Identify deviations, recommend corrective actions, review fuel consumption, compare vessels, and manage hull fouling
* Resolve claims and disputes efficiently
* Assist chartering and operations with performance feedback and solutions
* Provide accurate vessel performance data to the trading desk
* Support automation of performance claims process
Qualifications:
* Degree or apprenticeship
* Background in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture, with relevant experience
* Experience creating and defending vessel speed and consumption claims
* Knowledge of vessel operations, propulsion, and maritime tech
* Detail-oriented, analytical, and proficient in data tools
* Fluent in English
Advantages (not required):
* Experience with Veson IMOS
* Database skills (Microsoft Access)
* Knowledge of charter parties and marine insurance
