Job overview

The Community Engagement & Training Team are responsible for looking after our volunteer community first responders (CFRs), fire, and armed forces co-responders as well as our public access defibrillator (PAD) sites across the footprint of SCAS.
The team also provides training and governance to external stakeholders and work with local communities and schools.

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit an Assistant Community Engagement & Training Officer (ACETO) to support the Community Engagement & Training Officer (CETO) and to work with our Community Responders in the Hampshire Area. This post will be based from Nursling Ambulance Station.

We are looking for an individual who is a self-motivated and talented educator, who is able to work across the Hampshire area primarily, but also across the SCAS footprint as required. They will manage their own workload with the input and support of their Community Engagement and Training Officer and other members of the team to ensure they achieve maximum productivity whilst going about their duties.


Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work with the Community Engagement & Training Officer, delivering training sessions and ensuring training records are kept up to date. They will also ensure CFR welfare is undertaken and will attend stakeholder engagement events as required, the individual will also ensure the overall objectives of the team are met.

There is an expectation of flexibility in relation to workload as the nature of our department and the work of our teams means that occasionally plans will have to be changed with little or no notice to accommodate an evolving need.

This position will involve working over weekends and working late shifts with a shift pattern to be agreed with the Operations Manager to fulfil the needs of the department.

Corporate Induction

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Operational, Strategic and Clinical Governance:

The Post holder will:

To assist the Head of Community Engagement & Training, Operations Managers and Community Engagement and Training Officers in the implementation of the community engagement & training strategic plan.

To work seamlessly with the community engagement & training officer assigned to your locality as well as with the wider team to ensure the smooth day to day running of the department and in particular, your locality ensuring training is well planned and relevant to the needs of the groups and the department.

To deliver clinical and non-clinical education and training, both in the classroom and the operational environment in accordance with the requirements of the department and as agreed within your locality.

To assess learners before, during and after training which may include driving assessments as required by the driving standards department for those people wishing to drive Trust vehicles or their own scheme funded vehicles.

To provide best practice advice in a clinical setting for volunteers, external stakeholders and other agencies in relation to clinical practice and governance

To work collaboratively with representatives from the co – responder schemes, acting as a bridge between the groups and the Trust, supporting and advising the members as appropriate, encouraging the development of the schemes, undertaking debriefing of volunteers when appropriate and supporting their work in the community.

To deliver on individual workloads as planned by your line manager, seeking guidance from your Line Manager, peers and external parties as appropriate.

Incorporate relevant operational policies and directives into the delivery of both clinical and technical training to ensure that the Trust’s objectives are met and understood and comply with governance requirements and relevant national CFR / Co-Responder governance arrangements as well as locally agreed protocols.

To ensure assessment papers, lesson plans and PowerPoint presentations used are current and compliant with the requirements of awarding body or as required by the department in the case of non-accredited education.

To maintain the appropriate records in accordance with Trust and departmental processes and legal requirements.

Arrange and attend meetings as required

Demonstrate comprehensive subject knowledge, utilise various teaching methods to suit different learners.

Maintain collaborative working relationships with all appropriate directorates of the Trust and liaise with operational teams within the specified locality.

Be competent in the independent use of various IT systems in use within the Trust and be able to use them on a day to day basis in order to complete tasks assigned to you.

Be competent in the independent use of Microsoft Office, Proactis, Assemble (volunteer management system) and other key pieces of software in regular use by the department

Embrace community engagement opportunities to raise awareness and promote publicity for new schemes and deliver presentations to schools, workplaces and local groups and supporting fundraising ventures and providing guidance. Assisting with press release and media presentations

In conjunction with the administrative team and logistics officer, ensure that there are sufficient stocks available for each course facilitated (including paperwork) and order supplies as required through the Trust’s procurement systems. Ensure all training equipment is in good working order, reporting all issues to the logistics officer or operations manager as appropriate.

Qualifications and Training


Essential criteria

* Possession of a professional qualification relevant to the role IHCD Technician / Associate Ambulance Practitioner / Registered Paramedic / Registered Nurse
* Evidence of Continuous Professional / Personal development


Desirable criteria

* Assessors qualification
* IQA / EQA Qualification
* Management and/or leadership qualification
* Driving assessment qualification
* Formal teaching or training qualification (PTLLS or Level 3 Award in Education & Training or equivalent)


Special Requirements


Essential criteria

* Full UK driving licence with C1 entitlement

Essential criteria

* Demonstrable post qualification experience in a clinical setting
* Demonstrates the ability to deliver clinical and technical training
* Competent in the independent use of Microsoft office applications including Outlook, Word, Publisher and PowerPoint.
* Fluent in the use of social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter (for the purposes of recruiting)
* Knowledge of NHS applications including Proactis, Qlickview, INetviewer and Datix
