Job Summary
This is an opportunity to join established teams, providing support to and working alongside qualified Dental Staff within the Child Dental Health Department on a fixed term maternity contract for 8 months from date of appointment. The role of the Registered Dental Nurse is to provide high standards of clinical care and support to post and undergraduate clinicians as well as various staff grades under the guidance of the Senior Dental Nurse. Responsibilities include preparation and maintenance of clinical areas, stock management, and input of data into the patient administration system.
Key responsibilities include close support for patient care in a clinical environment, maintaining high standards of cross-infection control, keeping patient confidentiality, escorting patients to waiting areas, booking appointments, and updating clinical activity data. Post-training in specialist areas (e.g., Implant, Surgical, Sedation, complex restorative procedures) may be advantageous or required. Although based in a specific department, staff may be required to work across other areas of the Dental Hospital and Trust.
Main duties
* Assist the dentist during procedures in a busy child dental health clinic, including cases under local anaesthetic, inhalation sedation, and general anaesthetic.
* Prepare instruments, equipment and materials for treatment.
* Provide care and support for patients undergoing a variety of treatments.
* Provide pre- and post-operative instructions and maintain a high standard of patient care.
* Ensure patient confidentiality is upheld.
* Provide administrative assistance with liaising with patients and external agencies.
* Provide clinical supervision and practical training to student dental nurses and other less experienced staff.
* Maintain cross-infection control, cleanliness of the department, and stock/equipment levels.

Person Specification
Essential
* National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Level 3 in Oral Healthcare (or equivalent); portfolio completed and signed
* General Dental Council registration
* Ability to organise own workload
* Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
Desirable
* IT skills
* Specialist DN skills (e.g., endo/implant, oral surgery and sedation)
* Post Certificate qualifications (e.g., radiology, sedation, orthodontics)
Knowledge
* Essential: Cross-infection procedures; Health & Safety; CPD
