Our client, a busy local authority in South Yorkshire, are looking for an experienced Internal Auditor and Business Improvement to join their team and play a crucial role within their internal audit operations. Position: Internal Auditor and Business Improvement Rate: Negotiable (Umbrella, Inside IR35) Contract Duration: Temporary (Aug 2026) Possible Extension Working Arrangement: Hybrid Job Purpose: To support the Head of Internal Audit in a number of business improvement areas which need to be designed and implemented in compliance with the Global Internal Audit Standards UK Public Sector. Job Duties: Deliver a risk-based internal audit plan tailored to local council requirements in accordance with Public Sector Internal Audit Standards. Lead or assist in investigations into allegations of fraud, corruption, or procedural irregularities. Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal control systems to mitigate risk exposure and safeguard council assets. Job Requirements: Previous experience working within a local authority or a similar organisation. A background of Internal Audit within the public sector (ideally in a Local Government setting) and knowledge of the GIAS or previous PSIAS is essential.
