Offer description

Overview

The Godolphin and Latymer School is one of the country’s leading independent day schools for girls, located on a six acre site in Hammersmith, London. The School’s facilities are excellent, making it an exciting place to learn and work. The students at Godolphin and Latymer receive unrivalled academic and pastoral support and outstanding examination results are achieved.

Role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, well-qualified and inspirational Chemist to join our thriving department from January 2026. The working hours can be full time or part time (FTE 0.8).

Department and Teaching

Chemistry is extremely popular throughout the school. It is taught as a standalone subject from Year 7 onwards. The department’s curricular and super-curricular programme is rigorous and engaging, overseen by specialist teachers and supported by dedicated technical staff. A range of new technologies is used in a modern suite of well-equipped classrooms and laboratories to facilitate effective learning. There is a strong focus on skills development and independent learning and high importance is placed on hands-on practical work.

Responsibilities

The post-holder will be required to teach across the school. The ability to work successfully as a member of an enthusiastic and proactive team, with an energetic and willing approach, is essential. Candidates need to be able to teach up to and including GCSE and A Level. Experience of teaching the IB Diploma Programme, and/or experience of supporting applications to competitive university courses, would be desirable. We currently teach Edexcel Chemistry at A Level and Edexcel IGCSE at GCSE.

Other responsibilities

All staff are expected to contribute to the thriving extra-curricular programme on offer at the School.

Salary and Benefits

The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Accommodation may be available for new staff in a local six-unit property.

How to Apply

Fully completed application forms must be returned to recruitment@godolphinandlatymer.com as soon as possible. Please note that applications must be made on the school’s application form. CVs will not be accepted.

Applications will be considered on receipt and interviews may occur at any stage.

Safeguarding

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants and all applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media accounts, as part of their application. All staff working in the School during the school day will have contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity. As a teaching member of staff you will be working directly with, and be responsible for, the children that you teach. You are also likely to have contact with other pupils on a regular basis which may include specific pastoral or other responsibilities for pupils whom you do not teach.

Legal

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

About the School

The Charity called The Godolphin and Latymer School (charity registration number 312699) is administered by The Godolphin and Latymer School Foundation, a charitable company limited by guarantee (Company number 3598439).
