About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director (FD) to join a well-established housing association in Liverpool. This is a pivotal leadership role providing strategic financial stewardship, stability, and insight during a period of transition and organisational development.
The Interim FD will work closely with the Chief Executive, Executive Team, and Board to ensure strong financial governance, long-term viability, and compliance with regulatory standards, while supporting the organisation's mission to provide safe, high-quality homes and services across the community.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic financial leadership, supporting the Board and Executive Team in shaping organisational priorities and long-term plans.
Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, treasury, cashflow, and investment planning.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements, including the Regulator of Social Housing's Governance & Financial Viability Standards.
Lead on business planning, stress testing, and scenario modelling to support organisational resilience.
Strengthen financial controls, risk management, and internal reporting frameworks.
Manage and mentor the finance team, promoting excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
Engage confidently with external stakeholders such as auditors, lenders, local authorities, and Board committees.
Provide clear, accessible reporting to support data-driven decision-making.
Support transformation and modernisation projects, including process improvements and digital finance initiatives.
About You
We are looking for an Interim FD with a proven track record in senior finance leadership, ideally within housing, charity, local government, or other regulated sectors.
Essential Experience:
Fully qualified accountant (e.g., FCCA, ACA, CIMA ).
Significant experience at Director or Senior Finance level .
Strong understanding of regulated environments and governance frameworks.
Expertise in business planning, financial modelling, and risk management.
Ability to build confidence quickly with Boards, executives, and external partners.
Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and excellent communication skills.
Desirable:
Experience within social housing or related public/third-sector organisations.
Knowledge of social housing financing, development appraisals, and long-term viability challenges.
