Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist

This is an exciting opportunity to take a specialist cognitive impairment role within Older People's Community Services in Leeds. The successful applicant will have dedicated time offering neuropsychological assessment and expertise within one of the Memory Assessment Service locality teams. The role is varied and also involves supporting development of our psychological interventions offer for people living with dementia within Community Mental Health Teams, under the lead of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. You will work as a senior clinician within the Older People's Service (OPS) to embed psychological interventions, offering specialist assessment, psychological formulation, team consultation and training. An important part of this role will be supporting professional colleagues to develop and use psychological thinking in their work and the successful candidate will take a lead on specific projects to support this. There will be opportunities to provide supervision for trainees and other professionals within the service, as well as offering line management for psychological practitioners within OPS. Supervision for clinical work will be provided internally by staff with expertise and experience in the above areas of work.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will:

• Provide specialist neuropsychological assessment and formulation within the Memory Assessment Service
• Lead and coordinate developments in OPS community services for people living with cognitive impairment.
• Facilitate team formulation with guidance and support for team members regarding psychological approaches to care plans where cognitive impairment is a significant factor.
• Support psychological thinking in the care of those living with cognitive impairment within OPS community services in LYPFT.
• Provide clinical supervision to other psychological practitioners working in OPS
• Take responsibility for line management of some psychological practitioners within OPS.
• Input into training initiatives as required for LYPFT staff and through links with the D.Clin Psych programme at the University of Leeds.
• Contribute to Trust duties withni and outside service e.g. investigate complaints, contribute to task and finish groups, or assist in projects that improve quality of care

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent prior to 1996) and HCPC registration as Practitioner Psychologist
• Additional post qualification training relevant to the service and job role outlined in the job summary, including neuropsychological assessment.

Experience

• Experience of teaching, training and clinical supervision of other staff.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised assessments and psychological therapies used to treat older people, including neuropsychological assessment.

Skills

• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
