Job Overview

* Be an integral part of the Major Trauma Team, providing day time cover 7 days a week
* Support a high standard of care and management of major trauma patients through: care co-ordination; promoting excellent care throughout the patient journey; providing specialist advice and MDT working within the Major Trauma Centre, Trauma Units, specialist rehabilitation units and community services
* Deliver holistic assessments of major trauma patients and make appropriate referrals based upon these, communicating findings to the clinical Major Trauma Team and ward teams
* Provide a key worker service to patients and families during and after hospital stay. This includes education, signposting to services and providing mental health support
* Complete Tertiary Surveys, report findings and request appropriate investigations, in collaboration with host medical teams (having acquired the necessary competencies)
* Deliver Quality Trauma Discharge and complete rehabilitation prescriptions within timescales as per service specifications
* Provide education to patients, carers and families, and clinical staff regarding management and rehabilitation of traumatic injuries
* To take part in service development, research and evaluation of the major trauma care and the service
* Work with the NMTR data coordinators to provide accurate, timely data required for mandated NMTR submissions

Person specification

Knowledge, Training, Experience And Skills
Essential criteria

* Allied Healthcare Professional or Nursing degree
* Minimum 5 years post-registration experience
* Service development experience
* Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable criteria

* Specialist knowledge of traumatically injured patients and major trauma care
* Experience of working with complex traumatically injured patients, including within acute care and delivering holistic assessments to this patient group
* Evidence of advanced therapy practice (e.g. Level and/or Level 2 trauma competencies)
* Research and or quality improvement experience
