An opportunity has arisen for a locum consultant in obstetrics & gynaecology to start from 1st October 2024. It is an interim post initially for 12 months to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will join the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at North Middlesex Hospital, joining 17 other Consultants. The department is busy and supportive, with a strong commitment to high standards of patient care.
Main duties of the job
The appointees will participate in delivering undergraduate training to trainees and medical students. The hospital has modern facilities, including a new Accident and Emergency Department, Gynaecology Emergency Room, Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, and advanced surgical equipment. The hospital is also a designated Cancer Unit within the London Oncology network, with services for minimal access surgery, outpatient hysteroscopy, and incontinence support.

Responsibilities
The role involves general gynaecology and obstetrics with 8 PAs per week, including on-call duties (1:16 on call). The candidate should have an interest in high-risk obstetrics, adolescent gynaecology, and cancer pathways. Clinical duties include antenatal clinics, Gynaecology clinics, and possibly community clinics. There is scope for developing special interest sessions.
Person specification
* Full GMC registration
* Medical Degree – MBBS or equivalent
* CCT or eligibility within 6 months
* ATSM in advanced labour ward
* Excellent clinical skills
* Experience in risk management and working with diverse populations
* Effective communication skills
* Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
* Interest and experience in clinical audit
* Postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
* Experience in appraisal and assessment
* Completion of relevant training courses
* Understanding of clinical governance and evidence-based practice
* Experience with guideline implementation and audit cycles
* Basic management and organizational skills
* Understanding of financial regulations
* Formal management training (preferred)
