Overview
We’re working with a leading UK space and satellite communications organisation to find a Satcom Architecture Support specialist to support the development and maintenance of SATCOM programme architecture baselines within a Systems Engineering Design Authority environment.
This role sits within a highly technical architecture team, supporting complex satellite communications programmes by defining, maintaining, and evolving system architectures from current (As-Is) to future (To-Be) states. You’ll work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure architectural coherence, traceability, and alignment with programme objectives.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the SATCOM Engineering Design Authority with the development and maintenance of SATCOM programme system architectures.
• Develop, maintain, and control system architecture baselines, including interfaces and system interdependencies.
• Support the development of SATCOM architecture roadmaps from As-Is to To-Be states.
• Capture, manage, and maintain architectural artefacts within the authority repository.
• Translate user needs into clear system functionality through the development and use of use cases.
• Apply structured technical architecture processes when working on complex systems.
• Communicate effectively between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders to support decision-making.
• Contribute to architecture governance activities and technical reviews as required.
Required Skills & Experience
• Experience developing and maintaining system architecture baselines, including interface and dependency management.
• Strong experience translating user needs into system functionality using use cases.
• Experience applying formal technical architecture processes within complex system environments.
• Knowledge of satellite communication systems.
• Experience using the NATO Architecture Framework (NAF).
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.
Desirable Skills
• Knowledge of military satellite communications systems.
• Experience working within MOD environments, including familiarity with KiD and GEAR.
• Experience with architecture tooling such as Sparx Enterprise Architect or BizzDesign (working knowledge of BizzDesign preferred).
• Knowledge of architecture modelling languages such as ArchiMate, UML, or SysML (working knowledge of ArchiMate preferred).
• Understanding of the full systems engineering lifecycle (e.g. INCOSE, ISO/IEC 15288).
• Experience developing service architectures and solution architectures.
