Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, are now recruiting for a Document Control Manager to join our team based in Bishops Cleeve and report directly to our Director of Engineering. About the role: We’re looking for a Document Control Manager to lead our Configuration and Change Management function within Engineering. This is a key leadership role, managing a team of 8 and acting as the focal point for all things related to engineering data, change control, and configuration across Ontic’s aerospace programmes. You’ll take ownership of the Engineering Change Request (ECR) and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes, ensuring they’re embedded within the wider business, fully traceable, and delivered in line with internal procedures and industry standards. You’ll also be accountable for product configuration within Windchill (our PLM system), making sure drawings, EBOMs and MBOMs are accurately controlled, released, and accessible to all stakeholders across production, engineering, and quality teams. This role combines technical oversight with strategic influence – helping shape the future of how Ontic manages engineering data, while maintaining day-to-day operational control and team development. You’ll liaise with both internal departments and external customers, ensuring effective communication, compliance, and continuous improvement across the function. About you: You’ll bring significant experience in configuration and data management within an engineering or manufacturing environment, with a strong grasp of change control processes and related standards (EIA-649, GEIA-HB-649 or MIL-STD-973 would be a plus). Experience with PLM tools (ideally Windchill), ERP systems, and a solid understanding of engineering drawings and BoMs will also be key to success. We’re looking for someone who’s confident managing a high-performing team, comfortable driving process improvement, and capable of leading from the front as a subject matter expert. You’ll need great communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a complex technical environment.
