Job Description
Workplace Classification: Hybrid - This position does not require full-time onsite presence. Employees are expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.
The Team: GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT software solutions for motorsports, enabling interactions between GM Global Engineering, GM Motorsports, and race teams supporting NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar racing.
The Role: We seek a Staff Engineer to lead technical design and implementation of scalable, high-performance systems. Responsibilities include providing strategic guidance, mentoring engineers, and fostering innovation to meet business and technical goals.
Responsibilities
1. Design and refine system architecture focusing on scalability and business alignment.
2. Engage in coding, prototyping, and code reviews, enforcing best practices.
3. Mentor engineers on design patterns and architecture.
4. Design data flows to improve performance and usability.
5. Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies.
6. Collaborate with teams to align solutions with business needs.
7. Maintain platform stability and scalability through standards and roadmaps.
8. Promote CI/CD, automation, and performance optimization.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
* Expertise in Java, Python, Kotlin, and front-end frameworks like React.js or Angular.
* Experience with Kafka, Event Hubs, Confluent, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
* Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (Postgres, MongoDB, Redis).
* Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and modern practices.
* Experience with networking protocols (REST, WebSockets, gRPC).
* Proven ability to develop scalable web systems supporting high transaction volumes.
People Skills
* Leadership in managing projects and making architectural decisions.
* Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
* Over 3 years as a staff engineer or technical leader.
* More than 10 years in software development with a focus on architecture.
* Experience designing global, scalable platforms and leading large-scale eCommerce projects.
* Knowledge of streaming telemetry and timing metrics.
* Experience in motorsports industry is a plus.
