Role
This post is a Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer fixed‑term (2‑year training & development) post. It begins at Band 2 and allows entry without previous pharmacy experience or a NVQ Level 2. Successful completion of the Pharmacy NVQ Level 2 course leads to a permanent Band 3 role.
Responsibilities
* Provide pharmacy replenishment service to wards and departments, coordinating stock levels with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and ward sisters.
* Ensure all stock is put away appropriately.
* Assemble orders from all sources, book them on the computer, charge to the correct department, pick, check, and pack for delivery in accordance with departmental procedures.
* Maintain and review drug "to‑follows" to ensure an effective system of replenishment drug supply through communication with relevant pharmacy and ward staff.
* Assist with returning drugs via the computer system, including returned stocks and disposal of expired or unwanted items, maximizing drug usage and financial resource.
* Assist in receiving all goods, recording receipts, issues, batch numbers, expiry dates and other relevant information on the pharmacy computer system, ensuring accurate departmental stock.
* Assist in checking stock levels and expiry dates to minimise stock‑outs and waste.
* Work as part of the Pharmacy Team to provide an efficient, effective and safe pharmaceutical service to patients and customers, including ward stock top‑up to wards, departments and community hospitals where appropriate.
* Dispense in accordance with departmental and Trust standards, in conjunction with UHL clinical governance objectives and those of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Provide late, weekend and bank holiday cover on a rota basis.
Qualifications
No previous pharmacy experience required. NVQ Level 2 is desirable.
Training & Development
2‑year training and development post offering progression to a permanent Band 3 position upon successful completion of the Pharmacy NVQ Level 2 course.
