The Role
We are seeking an experienced Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Engineer with strong Terraform expertise to support the design, automation, and operational management of a secure and scalable Azure Virtual Desktop environment.
This role requires hands-on delivery capability across Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Azure networking, identity, storage, and ongoing AVD operational support within a production enterprise environment.
You will play a key role in deploying, maintaining, and optimising AVD host pools, images, and supporting infrastructure while ensuring high availability, compliance, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Design, deploy and manage Azure Virtual Desktop environments
Build and maintain Terraform scripts and reusable modules
Manage Terraform state (remote backends) and CI/CD integration
Install and configure AVD host pools, images and scaling plans
Perform capacity planning in collaboration with architecture teams
Manage Azure IaaS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code
Monitor AVD performance and recommend optimisation improvements
Deploy updates via Azure Update Manager
Maintain and update AVD images (monthly patches, upgrades, enterprise releases)
Configure FSLogix, OneDrive, and roaming profile solutions
Support Universal Print in AVD environments
Manage Azure networking, identity, storage and license management
Create and maintain monitoring alerts
Support incident management and service restoration activities
Develop automation scripts using PowerShell, CLI and batch scripting
Create and maintain technical documentation and runbooks
Work with app layering solutions (MSIX App Attach, FlexApp or similar)
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong hands-on experience with Terraform (custom modules, state management, remote backend)
Extensive experience deploying and supporting Azure Virtual Desktop
Strong knowledge of Azure Virtualization, Networking, Identity and Storage
Experience managing AVD operational support in enterprise environments
Solid understanding of FSLogix and user profile management
Strong Group Policy management experience
Experience with Azure licensing and cloud compliance
Automation scripting experience (PowerShell preferred)
Experience creating and responding to monitoring alerts
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment

Hybrid role
3 days per week onsite in Wokingham (mandatory)
Additional office travel may be required for ad hoc support
