Principal EICA Engineer
Contract - Outside of scope of IR35
Location: Manchester
Hybrid: 2–3 days per week in the office
Duration: 12 months
We’re supporting the delivery of major water infrastructure programmes and are looking for a Principal Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation (EICA) Engineer to join a high-performing design team based in Manchester.
This role involves leading or supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary design across water sector frameworks, with a focus on electrical and control solutions that are practical, efficient, and compliant.
The Role
1. Lead the production of electrical, instrumentation, and control design documentation in accordance with project specifications and budgets
2. Develop outline and detailed EICA designs for both new and existing water infrastructure
3. Prepare and review specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations
4. Conduct site surveys, support installation planning, and attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) at supplier facilities
5. Ensure subcontractor designs meet technical and quality standards
6. Produce installation scopes of work and support commissioning where required
7. Allocate work within the EICA discipline and ensure delivery aligns with project schedules and expectations
8. Ensure compliance with UK legislation, WIMES, ATEX, CE marking, and relevant directives (LVD, PED, EMC, Machinery)
9. Contribute to HV design and provide support during site construction and commissioning activities
What You’ll Bring
10. Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering; apprenticeship routes considered
11. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards) with a relevant professional body
12. 15+ years of engineering experience, ideally in the water sector or similar regulated environments
13. In-depth knowledge of UK design standards, WIMES, and installation requirements
14. Understanding of hazardous area design, CE marking regulations, and industry directives
15. Strong communication and coordination skills across disciplines, clients, and supply chain
16. Experience delivering practical, buildable solutions with a focus on safety and long-term asset performance
