The role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Author with proven experience in the nuclear industry to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing, reviewing, and maintaining clear, concise, and compliant technical documentation for nuclear systems, components, and processes. You will work closely with engineering, safety, and project teams to ensure all documentation meets regulatory and client requirements.
Opportunity
* Develop, write, and edit a wide range of technical documentation including:
Operating and maintenance manuals
Safety case documentation
System design descriptions
Process and procedural documents
Training materials and technical reports
* Ensure all documentation adheres to:
S1000D
Nuclear regulatory standards (e.g., ONR, IAEA, ASME, IEC)
Company policies and quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
Client-specific requirements and project specifications
* Interpret complex engineering drawings, technical specifications, and data from SMEs (Subject Matter Experts)
* Contribute to document configuration management and version control using tools such as Documentum, SharePoint, or other PLM systems
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across engineering, HSE, QA, and project management
* Support audits and regulatory reviews by ensuring documentation is up to date and traceable
To be considered for this opportunity
Essential Requirements
* Proven experience as a Technical Author within the nuclear industry (civil or defence sectors)
* Strong understanding of nuclear safety principles, industry terminology, and documentation best practices
* Familiarity with relevant nuclear standards (e.g., ONR TAGs, IAEA SSR-2/1, ASME NQA-1)
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical data
* Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English
* Proficient in MS Office and document management systems
* Experience working in highly regulated environments with strict compliance requirements
* Must have lived in the UK for a minimum of 5 years
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Science, English, or a related field
* Membership in a professional body (e.g., ISTC, INCOSE)
* Experience with digital authoring tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, XML/DITA, or Arbortext
* Knowledge of lifecycle documentation in design, construction, commissioning, and decommissioning phases
* Security Check clearance (or ability to obtain it) for defence-related projects
