Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Scientific Affairs for the Transplant Diagnostics business provides scientific leadership and strategic direction to support the development, commercialization, and lifecycle management of transplant diagnostic solutions. This role serves as a key scientific authority and external ambassador, working closely with R&D, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Marketing, and Commercial teams to ensure scientific excellence, clinical relevance, and alignment with evolving standards of care in transplantation.
The position requires deep expertise in transplant immunology and diagnostics, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to translate complex scientific data into clear, impactful insights for both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Scientific Leadership & Strategy
* Lead the scientific affairs strategy for the Transplant Diagnostics portfolio, aligned with business objectives and clinical needs.
* Serve as a subject matter expert in transplant immunology, histocompatibility, HLA typing, antibody testing, and molecular diagnostics.
* Provide scientific input to product strategy, pipeline planning, and lifecycle management activities.
External Scientific Engagement
* Act as a scientific ambassador for Thermo Fisher Scientific at key conferences, advisory boards, workshops, and scientific meetings.
* Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), transplant clinicians, laboratory directors, and scientific societies.
* Support investigator-initiated studies and collaborative research partnerships.
Evidence Generation & Scientific Communications
* Oversee the development and dissemination of scientific evidence, including abstracts, posters, manuscripts, white papers, and technical content.
* Ensure scientific accuracy and consistency across promotional and non-promotional materials in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
* Partner with Medical Affairs and Clinical teams to support clinical studies, real-world evidence generation, and post-market surveillance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Collaborate closely with R&D to provide scientific guidance on assay development, performance evaluation, and clinical relevance.
* Partner with Regulatory Affairs to support submissions, responses to regulatory inquiries, and compliance with global regulations.
* Support Commercial and Marketing teams with scientific training, value messaging, and customer engagement strategies.
Leadership & Team Development
* Lead, mentor, and develop scientific affairs team members as applicable.
* Foster a culture of scientific rigor, collaboration, and continuous learning within the organization.
* Influence without authority across global, matrixed teams.
Qualifications
Education
* PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent advanced degree in immunology, molecular biology, transplantation, clinical laboratory science, or a related field required.
Experience
* 8+ years of experience in HLA and clinical transplantation with demonstrated expertise in transplant diagnostics, immunogenetics, or histocompatibility testing strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
* Strong scientific communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.
* Strategic thinker with a strong understanding of clinical workflows and customer needs in transplantation.
* Excellent collaboration, leadership, and organizational skills.
* Willingness to travel up to ~25–30% as required.
