PDRA radar sensing for gait analysis Unit: School of Science and Engineering Full-Time/6 months Grade 7 Spine Point 29 The School of Science and Engineering comprises the disciplines of: Biomedical, Civil, Mechanical Engineering; Computing; Mathematics; Physics; and the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID). We host the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science, which has been designed to disrupt positively the forensic-science ecosystem. The School benefits from superb research infrastructure, substantial opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, and the University's established excellence in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses. We are committed to the appointment of outstanding academics and researchers to form a cohesive expansion in the development of interdisciplinary research. All appointees are welcome to contribute to knowledge-transfer, outreach and public-engagement activities. A funded opportunity is available to work on a project in radar sensing for human gait evaluation. This position is based in Biomedical Engineering, School of Science and Engineering. The project will investigate the use of radar sensors to assess the condition of individuals with mobility difficulties, including difficulties associated with Parkinson's disease. The work is intended to support clinical decision-making by helping to prioritise patients for interventions such as total knee replacement, and by detecting early cognitive decline, including Parkinson's-related risk, through the use of deep learning and artificial intelligence. The project ultimately aims to improve access to care and patient outcomes. Your priorities will include: Learn the operation of the radar developed by the University of Glasgow Designing the experiments and preparing the data collection Collecting gait data from at least 30 subjects in the labs at Dundee and Close liaison with collaborators, including installation and testing of instruments at other laboratories. Independent analysis of experimental data, testing of hypotheses, and producing publication-ready Supporting undergraduate students with their scientific Maintaining documentation and write up research results for scientific publication Represent the research group at external meetings/seminars Collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports, journal articles, and patents Manage own academic research and administrative activities Any other duties appropriate with the role Who we're looking for: Essential Completed a PhD in applied physics, computer science or Experience with research data collection and Knowledge in programming such as C++, MATLAB or A track record of scientific publication commensurate with experience Evidence of initiative in the formulation, planning, and implementation of research activities Capable of managing own academic research and associated activities to meet deadlines The ability to work flexibly as part of a cross-disciplinary collaborative research team Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written Desirable Previous experience in working with radar sensing and Knowledge in radar signal processing and radar Experience with machine learning using MATLAB/Python.
