A well-established civil engineering contractor with a turnover of circa £70m is seeking an experienced General Foreman to support its growing portfolio of projects across the North West and Cumbria. With a strong pipeline of secured work, particularly within upcoming AMP 8 frameworks, this is a great opportunity to join a business delivering critical infrastructure schemes in the water sector.
The Role
Reporting to the Site Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day coordination of site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to programme. Projects will include a mix of shaft sinking, deep drainage, and water treatment upgrades.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise site activities and manage gangs, subcontractors, and plant
- Ensure works are carried out in line with HSEQ standards and company procedures
- Assist with planning, sequencing, and coordination of works on site
- Monitor progress against programme and report updates to site management
- Ensure quality standards are achieved and maintained throughout the project lifecycle
- Support toolbox talks, briefings, and daily site documentation
Requirements
- Proven experience as a General Foreman within civil engineering
- Strong background in the water sector, with exposure to AMP frameworks (AMP 7 / AMP 8 desirable)
- Experience in shaft sinking and/or water treatment works is highly advantageous
- SSSTS or SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid qualifications
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate site teams
- Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving ability
