Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Medical Secretary to work as part of a the administration team supporting the diabetes specialist nurses and the education team.

To provide a comprehensive administration service in strict accordance with GDPR and Trust confidentiality guidelines, ensuring all work is processed in a timely, efficient way.

Main duties of the job

·To undertake accurate typing of medical correspondence and general administration for the Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Diabetes Education Team. This will include highly sensitive and complex medical terminology with a need for confidentiality.

·To support the Community Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Diabetes Education team by actioning referrals, contacting patients and GPs, typing letters, organising clinic appointments, and use of the Care Records Service, and RiO.

·To assist in maintaining a high standard of service to meet patient needs and to keep accurate and up-to-date patient statistics so that the teams can meet their quality and economic targets.

·To assist with the daily management of clinic lists and booking of priority patients into clinics or on to Diabetes Education courses.

To act as part of the Community Diabetes Specialist Nursing and Diabetes Education Admin teams, providing administrative support for colleagues in their absence.

·To be responsible for any housekeeping procedures relating to the running of theadmin offices.

·In the absence of the Admin Manager/ Senior Admin minute-taking at the monthly team meetings.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

11. GCSE Grade C or above/equivalent in English Language
12. RSA II Typing, or equivalent
13. Medical Secretarial Course/ Medical Terminology Course, or ability to demonstrate equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria

14. Experience of working within the NHS in a similar setting
15. Experience of working within busy office environment
16. Experience of word processing
17. Ability to work with highly confidential data, and to maintain patient confidentiality
18. Good working knowledge of MS Office

Special Circumstances

19. Willing to travel between hospital sites
20. Able to maintain a flexible approach to the role and duties
