Tenancy/Accommodation Support Officer Job description We are shining a spotlight on the needs of young people leaving residential care to ensure that they receive the right support and accommodation to live successful lives. City of York Council 'Staying Close' team working within Children's Social Care, will provide support with housing and accommodation, health/wellbeing, employment/training and developing important networks that will provide ongoing support and guidance. We have developed several key roles that will make all this possible and we are looking for committed and confident applicants with knowledge and expertise in these areas. The successful candidate will work directly with young people leaving residential care to identify and secure appropriate housing and accommodation, appropriate to their needs. It is important that young people are supported to live close to their family, friends and support network and in appropriate accommodation. As a Tenancy and Accommodation Officer, you will work as part of a team, to ensure that young people receive the right support at the right time and delivered in the right way. You will work closely with colleagues from City of York Housing as well as a number of other providers, landlords and agencies to develop an accommodation pathway to enable young people to move on from residential care successfully. You will have to think outside of the box, be creative and demonstrate an unwavering commitment in supporting young people to be successful, even during times of resistance and challenge. Everything about what we do is grounded in our relationships with young people, their families and each other. This key post is focussed supporting young people leaving residential care into their first own home. The successful individual will have: Demonstrable experience of supporting vulnerable young people, who can develop and maintain relationships, even when these are tested and challenging. A young person focussed and flexible approach with good Insight and understanding of young people leaving care and the challenges and opportunities that they may encounter. Working knowledge of the housing, securing tenancies and benefit entitlements. This post is suitable as a job share opportunity. As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language. Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
