Business Development Manager (Southern England)
Location: Reading (covering Southern England)
Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 + £5,600 car allowance + bonus
Contract Type: Permanent
I am supporting a leading UK engineering and asset maintenance provider in their search for a Business Development Manager to drive commercial growth across Southern England. This role is ideal for an experienced Business Development professional with a strong background in industrial, engineering or complex maintenance environments.
The organisation delivers multi-discipline engineering, maintenance, project and operational support services across a range of regulated and process-driven sectors. With more than 4,500 employees, 14 UK locations and a well-established reputation for safety, technical capability and long-term client partnerships, the business is well positioned for continued expansion. This role is central to that growth strategy.
The Opportunity
As Business Development Manager, you will lead the delivery of the business growth strategy across key markets including Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Process, Power, Pharmaceuticals, Biopharma and wider industrial sectors.
Key responsibilities include:
* Driving new business growth through proactive market engagement and innovative BD initiatives
* Selling of Hard Contracting Services such as mechanical / electrical / access / insulation etc
* Achieving sales and gross profit targets aligned with regional and national objectives
* Building relationships with senior stakeholders to identify, develop and convert opportunities
* Identifying emerging opportunities and contributing to long-term strategic planning
* Supporting the development of sector strategies and regional business development plans
* Leading negotiations and managing opportunities through to contract award
* Developing long-term customer relationships to support retention and growth
* Utilising CRM tools to manage pipeline activity and reporting
* Supporting marketing, proposals and the development of win themes
* Working closely with operational leaders to strengthen Key Accounts
This is a high-impact role suited to someone who enjoys autonomy, senior-level engagement and delivering measurable commercial results.
About You
To succeed in this role, you should demonstrate:
* Proven success in Business Development and senior-level sales conversion
* Experience in industries such as Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Process, Power or Pharmaceuticals (strong advantage)
* Understanding of multi-discipline maintenance frameworks, construction projects or turnarounds
* Operational insight gained from either customer-side or supply-chain positions
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce compelling proposals and presentations
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
* A self-driven, target-focused, relationship-led approach
* HNC/HND/Degree-level qualifications (preferred)
* Willingness to travel extensively across Southern England (role based in Reading)
