Position
Hull University Teaching Hospitals are seeking a Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist to join their diverse team of Allied Health Professionals who work across a range of clinical specialties within acute care. You will gain experience working in a large busy acute teaching hospital that has defined links with Hull University and is itself a Major Trauma Centre.
About the Partnership
The Humber Health Partnership is one of the largest acute and community partnership arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion. It is made up of two trusts – Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH). Our five main hospital sites are Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital, Goole and District Hospital, Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. Together we employ nearly 20 000 staff and work in partnership with Hull York Medical School to lead and contribute to research across a broad spectrum of specialties.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and address the needs of patients across a range of clinical conditions within acute care, delivering evidence‑based interventions to facilitate recovery, promote well‑being and optimise independent functioning.
* Provide direct input into the assessment and treatment of patients and support the clinical leads in developing the service.
* Actively supervise and support junior staff and students, contributing to their learning and professional development.
* Work collaboratively as an active member of the multi‑disciplinary team, building networks and partnerships with other agencies involved in patient care.
* Assess patients effectively and efficiently within a rapid‑paced environment, enabling them to take positive risks and pursue personalised care pathways.
* Apply knowledge of the SAFER principles of care and Discharge to Assess to support functional assessment and manual handling decisions.
* Develop operational management skills and contribute to service planning, development and teaching initiatives.
* Serve as a role model for the team, delivering high‑quality care and motivating others to do the same.
Qualifications and Experience
* Band 6 Occupational Therapist or a Band 5 occupational therapist who has completed core rotations and is ready for a senior rotational post.
* Demonstrated ability to assess patients in a rapid‑paced environment.
* Confidence in enabling patients in positive risk‑taking and personalised care, with knowledge of capacity assessment, manual handling and functional assessment.
* Familiarity with SAFER principles of care and Discharge to Assess.
* Strong motivation, aspiration and the ability to work well within a team.
