Advanced Occupational Therapist Team Leader - Surgery

Job overview

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to support and lead a team in the clinical area of Surgery.

You will manage your own and support others with a complex caseload in an Inpatient setting.

The role involves close working with the MDT as well as divisional Senior Leaders. There will also be close working with senior leadership in Occupational Therapy with the opportunity to deliver the OT strategy and vision.

The Occupational Therapy department offers opportunities to take part in a research symposium and opportunities for innovation in an ever changing environment.

There are ample leadership development opportunities. You will supervise and appraise members of the team and support the development of junior staff.


Main duties of the job

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with highly developed clinical skills in this field of practice. You will have a lead role in initiating, planning, implementing and leading the service developments in the Surgery Occupational Therapy Team on a day-to-day basis.

You will provide occupational therapy to patients working autonomously and without direct supervision. You will ensure safe and effective delivery of occupational therapy and work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary and agency teams and the Professional Lead and Operational Manager in Occupational Therapy. You will also work closely with the Divisions to reduce length of stay and readmission rates.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Occupational Therapist registered with Health Professions Council
* Degree or Diploma of Occupational Therapy
* Fieldwork educators certificate or equivalent
* Evidence of relevant C.P.D. in line with HCPC guidelines
* Working to a level of expertise, knowledge and judgement commensurate with MSc
* Member of R.C.O.T.
* Evidence of further study / research in clinical specialty
* Member of relevant Special Interest Group / Specialist section
* Evidence of management / leadership training
* Post graduate formal qualification relevant to clinical speciality (e.g. MSc)


Experience

* Significant experience in relevant field of practice
* Close working with multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of supervising Occupational Therapy staff / students
* Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
* Moving and handling patients and daily living equipment
* Business planning
* Team leadership
* Experience in Community setting
* Experience in adult rehabilitation
* Experience of conducting recruitment and selection procedure
* Experience of dealing with people who display inappropriate behaviour (e.g. physical or verbal)
* Experience of research and evidence based practice


Knowledge

* Awareness of current research and treatment applications
* Knowledge of relevant governmental guidelines
* Understanding of legal responsibilities of the profession, e.g. RCOT and HCPC guidelines and codes of ethic and professional conduct
