We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable individual to join our team as Bar Manager at our brand new St Andrews Distillery Visitor Centre and Bar. This position will play an integral role in providing an outstanding experience for our visitors to the distillery through ensuring the smooth running of the bar and café.
Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management
* Oversee daily operations, ensuring smooth service in line with Eden Mill’s 5-star standards.
* Ensure food operation (small boards menu) is set up and executed to an exceptional standard
* Manage opening and closing procedures, stock levels, and cash handling.
2. Staff Leadership & Development
* Train and manage a high-performing bar and floor team. Taking responsibility for maintaining high standards of quality, health and hygiene across the bar area
* Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, and mentoring sessions.
* Promote a culture of professionalism, product knowledge, and 5-star customer service.
3. Guest Experience & Service Standards
* Ensure an exceptional guest experience with a focus on refined service, storytelling, and cocktail presentation.
* Educate customers: Share the story behind our different spirits, explain the production techniques, and answer any questions guests may have about gin and whisky.
* Handle guest feedback professionally, addressing concerns promptly and positively.
* Coordinate with the wider visitor centre team to align the bar’s offerings with the broader brand narrative and spirit portfolio.
4. Food & Beverage Curation & Innovation
* Work with mixologists and the wider VC team to finalise a creative cocktail menu that highlights house-made spirits.
* Work with distillery team to finalise a small but luxury food menu, including charcuterie & cheese boards.
* Stay current with trends in mixology, bar design, and global F&B innovation.
* Regularly review and improve customer service SOPs in line with luxury hospitality trends.
5. Financial & Stock Management
* Manage budgets, cost controls, and profit margins.
* Conduct inventory checks, order supplies, and maintain optimal stock levels.
* Monitor sales performance, track KPIs, and report on revenue and cost-saving opportunities.
6. Compliance & Hygiene
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations.
* Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of the bar, storage, and service areas.
* Train staff in responsible alcohol service and safety protocols.
7. Event & Experience Planning
* Work with the VC team to help coordinate and host special events (e.g., St Andrews Day events, product launches, private bookings).
* Collaborate with marketing for promotions, social media features, and seasonal campaigns.
8. Collaboration & Brand Ambassadorship
* Liaise with the distillery production team to ensure alignment between product launches and bar offering.
* Stay updated and informed: Continuously expand your knowledge of gin and whisky production methods, industry trends, and our specific products to enhance the product experiences and effectively answer customer queries.
* Be knowledgeable about current trends in the industry, driving revenue through creative and effective upselling within the team.
Role requirements:
* Previous experience in luxury bar restaurant environment
* Experience in a Leadership role in the Food & Beverage industry
* Organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and efficiently manage time.
* Friendly, outgoing personality with a genuine passion for providing exceptional customer experiences.
* Must be of 18 years and over due to legal requirement and capable of responsibly promoting and serving alcoholic beverages.
* Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings, as needed.
