Job description
This position will be based at Shoreham but requires flexibility to work at other sites and customer locations within the UK as needed. This role is crucial in expanding our client's mechanical development capability, focusing on automotive components, systems, and associated vehicle parts.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Managing technical tasks and leading project teams
2. Preparing and developing proposals
3. Understanding product development processes for powertrains and transmissions
4. Defining system and component specifications
5. Conducting rig and system validation testing
6. Utilising instrumentation and data capture techniques
7. Performing FMEAs and maintaining DVPs (Design Validation Plans)
8. Employing structured problem-solving methods like 8D and DAMAIC
9. Preparing and releasing test procedures
10. Overseeing post-test teardowns and inspections
11. Applying metrology skills
12. Liaising with suppliers and managing the design release process
13. Preparing and executing tests for components, systems, engines, and vehicles
14. Using specialist instrumentation and prototype component manufacture
15. Managing functionality and durability tests for engines and vehicles
16. Conducting technical investigations and reporting on powertrain enquiries
17. Preparing work proposals and planning projects
18. Collaborating with engineering teams and specialists
Job Requirements:
19. Experience in automotive engineering and mechanical development
20. Strong fundamental engineering principles
21. Excellent initiative and interpersonal skills
22. Proficient written communication, PC, and presentation skills
23. Broad knowledge of powertrain systems
24. Supplier management capabilities
25. Flexibility to work at client sites and travel as required
26. Ability to coordinate information from multiple engineering departments
27. Understanding of engineering drawings and fault-finding techniques
28. Proficiency in project management
29. Knowledge of CAE and CFD techniques
30. Understanding of gasoline and diesel engine component and system design, with basic knowledge of transmission operation
31. Good presentation and reporting skills
