One of my local government clients is transforming its Market Management Service, overseeing the procurement and management of over 3,000 temporary accommodation homes and 600+ private rented homes. As part of this transformation, we are recruiting for 1.5 Private Rented Housing Officers to join our new, socially responsible Private Rented Housing team.
This service is driving innovation in the way private rented housing is managed, offering tenants safe, decent, affordable homes while maintaining a commercially viable and efficient service.
The Role:
As a Privately Rented Housing Officer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of a portfolio of private rented properties. This is a highly varied, mobile role focused on delivering high-quality customer service while maintaining legal, contractual, and property standards.
You'll be provided with mobile technology and work flexibly, including regular property visits, inspections, and tenant engagement across the borough.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver tenancy and property management services across a portfolio of private rented homes.

Coordinate repairs, maintenance, and compliance checks, ensuring that properties meet housing standards and contractual obligations.

Carry out regular inspections, identify issues, and take timely action to resolve them.

Investigate and respond to complaints, tenancy breaches, or neighbour disputes professionally and in line with policy.

Maintain excellent relationships with tenants, landlords, and contractors, resolving issues collaboratively.

Monitor rent collection and tenancy sustainment, escalating arrears or welfare concerns where appropriate.

Use housing management systems and mobile tech to log, monitor, and report on all activity in real-time.
*
Support the development of a sustainable, ethical private rented service, balancing commercial awareness with social responsibility.
About You:
* Experienced in Property Management, Lettings, or Tenancy Management (ideally within the private or social housing sectors)
* Strong understanding of private sector housing regulations, landlord/tenant law, and tenancy agreements
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence to deal with complaints or enforcement issues
* High attention to detail, with excellent IT and case management system skills
* A proactive, customer-focused mindset, with the ability to manage competing priorities
* Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and flexibly in the field
* Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle – essential for borough-wide inspections
