Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to join the Band 6 team in Oncology Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) as a Deputy Ward Manager. Oncology SDEC is an assessment area for patients under oncology who have become unwell as a result of their disease or treatment. Patients are referred to SDEC and, as the Band 6 in charge, you will discuss suitability to attend over the phone. SDEC also sees patients under Haematology and Renal for nurse‑led procedures, infusions and transfusions. Patients may require admission from SDEC to the Specialist Receiving Unit, and appropriate escalation will be required.


Responsibilities

* Act as Band 6 in charge within the SDEC area, coordinating and prioritising patient care.
* Discuss patient suitability over the phone and direct referrals to SDEC accordingly.
* Provide nurse‑led procedures, infusions and transfusions for Haematology and Renal patients as applicable.
* Coordinate escalation and admission processes to the Specialist Receiving Unit when required.
* Support junior team members and take on Band 6 management responsibilities.
* Work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of care and patient safety.


Qualifications and Skills

* Registered Nurse with current registration.
* Experience as a Band 6 coordinator/nurse in charge or similar role.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to escalate issues appropriately.
* Ability to prioritise care, supervise junior staff and manage a busy clinical area.
