About The Project – An Suidhe Substation, Argyll
Balfour Beatty is delivering one of Scotland’s most significant energy infrastructure programmes: the construction of three new 275kV substations at Craig Murrail, An Suidhe and Crarae. The An Suidhe site plays a critical part in strengthening the region’s transmission network to support future renewable energy growth, with major commercial drivers around environmental compliance, peat‑management innovation and complex stakeholder interfaces. This programme represents a flagship investment in Scotland’s energy transition and a rare opportunity to help deliver nationally critical infrastructure.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team and support the successful delivery of this high‑profile substation scheme. This is a chance to work on a technically challenging, environmentally sensitive project while contributing to a programme that underpins Scotland’s renewable energy ambitions.

What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will manage all costs and income associated within your area of responsibility on a complex civil engineering project, while ensuring value for money and the highest standards for our customer.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
Commercial Management & Governance
* Using Balfour Beatty’s ERP and digital systems to manage commercial data and project information.
* Measuring, recording and valuing work in accordance with industry rules and procedures.
* Preparing cost reconciliation statements and interpreting specifications, drawings and Bills of Quantities.
* Building up estimates from first principles and agreeing measured works with subcontractors.
* Understanding customer contracts and supporting stakeholder management.
Programme & Planning Support
* Reviewing weekly and monthly programmes of work.
* Planning commercial activities to meet programme requirements.
* Collating cost/value information to support forecasting and reporting.
Procurement & Supply Chain
* Gathering information to define procurement requirements.
* Managing subcontract inquiries, adjudication and documentation.
* Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including the wider project team, subcontractors and customers.
Who we’re looking for
What You Need
* BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
* CSCS (AQP/PQP) and MRCIS/MCInstCES/MCIOB (or working towards).
* Experience managing costs and income on building or civil engineering projects.
* Ability to lead or support junior commercial colleagues.
* Strong commercial awareness, attention to detail and proactive problem‑solving.
