Job Title: Senior Design Engineer
Location: Plymouth, Devon
Hours: Monday – Friday, 39 hours a week
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Design Engineer to lead the design and development of precision sheet metal server cabinet solutions for hyperscaler data centres. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with globally recognised IT clients and contribute to cutting-edge infrastructure projects.
About the Role – As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development of mechanical and sheet metal products, ensuring structural integrity, manufacturability, and compliance with industry and customer standards. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams and directly with customers to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design and development of new mechanical and sheet metal products, particularly server cabinet solutions.
• Translate customer specifications into detailed CAD models and engineering drawings using Creo, with data managed through Windchill.
• Ensure all designs meet structural, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with major IT and hyperscaler clients.
• Apply design tools such as DFMEA and tolerance analysis to ensure robust product performance.
• Participate in and lead cross-functional design reviews.
• Communicate directly and regularly with customers to understand their needs and provide project updates.
• Support prototype validation and ensure accurate integration of design data into ERP systems.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across design processes and product quality.
What We’re Looking For
• BEng in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with significant experience in a relevant design engineering role.
• Expertise in sheet metal design, ideally for data centre or electronics enclosures.
• Proficiency in Creo and Windchill.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and DFM principles.
• Experience working with ERP/PLM systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
