Purpose of Position
To assume the role of Head of Trust Services, Jersey (the “Division”). This is a designated “senior management function” role as defined within the Financial Services Commission (Jersey) Law 1998 and you will discharge the obligations under this regime and in respect of a principal person satisfactorily and in line with defined business activities.
The Head of Trust Services, Jersey is responsible for driving organisation success by setting the strategic direction, having governance oversight, ensuring operational alignment and delivering results that support long term growth and sustainability.
Specifically, you will be directly responsible for leading and developing the Division by setting and implementing strategy for the growth of the business and driving forward the vision, mission, and values of EFG. To exercise accountability to the Board, Global Head of Trust Services, and relevant stakeholders and apply skill and care in exercising your duties, whilst ensuring operation and fiduciary risk exposures are managed to the highest standards and meeting financial performance objectives in line with financial plans.
To drive forward continuous growth in the business, generating meaningful and substantial business, revenue, and profitability growth in line with agreed budget and targets.
As a member of the executive board of EFGIJ, the role holder will drive business performance, foster a culture of excellence and integrity, and contribute to the broader strategic development of EFGIJ.
The position serves as a key liaison with regulators, clients and other stakeholders, ensuring that EFGIJ maintains its reputation as a trusted and leading fiduciary services provider.
Principal Responsibilities
Strategy
1. Contribute to the overall strategy, structure and prosperity of your Division. Actively participate in developing, implementing, and communicating the Division's agreed business plan/strategy. Contribute to the management of the local EFG business by acting as a director on the EFG in-house regulated companies, subsidiaries and as a committee member of in-house committees as required.
2. Lead, direct and manage the Division to ensure that it meets its regulatory, risk, financial and other stated objectives whilst also promoting and supporting the aims of EFG. Have the ability to strategically plan and proactively direct the Division and workloads to meet the needs of the business. Demonstrate and be recognised as the highest authority, delivering technical excellence in your specialist area and expertise in other relevant business and operational areas.
3. Focus on the development, maintenance, and growth of the Division, ensuring the delivery of high-quality fiduciary services, consistency, and operational efficiency in full compliance with regulatory obligations and internal risk frameworks.
4. Develop high level strategies for growth, efficiency, and competitive advantage. Demonstrate the ability to simultaneously be entrepreneurial, generating innovative ideas that are strategically sound and drive the company forward, maintaining a focus on the commercial needs, while keeping it under prudent control and acting responsibly towards employees, clients, and intermediaries.
Leadership
5. Accountable for the administration, operations, and accounting function within the Division, lead, provide support, encourage innovation, and motivate the management team in their day-today management of the wider administration, operations, and accounting teams. Monitoring of quality and accurate administration and output. Balance operational management and strategic initiatives.
6. Focus on leadership development, succession planning, and cultivating a high-performance culture. Build commitment with the administration, operations and accounting teams through fair, consistent, and persuasive behaviour, championing ideas and contributing to the setting of realistic yet challenging objectives through appraisal and other performance measurement initiatives.
7. Oversee resourcing, retention, and development in your Division. Develop commitment from your team and other colleagues through recognising good performance, providing timely and constructive feedback and through leading by example. Demonstrate the ability to lead and direct the efforts of others to achieve results.
8. Provide support to the Managing Director (Global Head of Trust Services) on any ad-hoc duties as required from time to time.
Relationship Management
9. Work collaboratively as part of the senior management team to support, cascade and embed business decisions, always behaving with the utmost integrity and professionalism.
10. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders. Play a key role in cross-functional collaboration. Communicate clearly and effectively, using authority and influence appropriately.
11. Inspire confidence in new and existing clients by working with key decision makers and influencers to build strong and effective relationships. Build, maintain and deepen strong relationships and credibility with colleagues, clients, and intermediaries by being approachable and proactive in sharing knowledge. Encourage teambuilding, collaboration, and a positive work culture.
Business Development
12. Drive forward and support business growth by the development of new business strategic plans and work with colleagues to attract opportunities and onboard new business from wider Group, external introductions, and prospective clients, supported by travelling to clients, and intermediaries as required. Act as one of the primary points of contact for new business enquiries, to include overseeing new business proposals and pitch documentation for prospective clients and/or intermediaries together with the senior management team.
13. Drive the achievement of the Division's budget and new business targets through proactive onboarding of new client relationships and the ongoing management and development of existing client relationships.
14. Maintain an awareness of the wider Business' and Division's service capabilities and create strategic alliances with third parties. Be a role model and ambassador for EFG both internally and externally, attending conferences, networking events and other relevant opportunities.
15. Maintain a knowledge of the external business environment and relevant industry specific trends, both locally and in other jurisdictions in which we have exposure, so that the range of services offered to clients is continually reviewed and to provide sound and practical advice both to colleagues and clients.
Financial
16. To drive forward change across the Division, which can be directly linked to increased profitability. Develop cost efficiencies through the introduction of new procedures, systems, working practices, improved financial management and other initiatives.
17. Lead commercial reviews of specific areas of the Division and provide reviews of findings and suggested action plans to the CEO EFGIJ.
18. Provide input to Divisional budgets and ensure financial results are monitored and continually compared with targets and activities are adjusted to ensure targets are met.
Operational
19. Attend, constructively contribute and chair internal committees/meetings as required from time to time and ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of key information where relevant. Act as a director/trustee of client entities as required.
20. Act as a point of contact for the administration, operations and accounting teams on technical and other matters within the Division. Demonstrate excellent knowledge of corporate governance requirements, internal compliance, anti-money laundering and other relevant policies and procedures.
21. Promote highest standards of client service administration and fiduciary services activities, ensuring that appropriate oversight is maintained thereby allowing fiduciary and operational risk to be effectively managed and controlled.
22. Work with the senior management team to identify areas to improve the client experience and implement operational efficiencies, ensuring that the Division is operating efficiently and effectively as possible. Contribute to and maintain adequate policies and procedures for the work conducted by the Division ensuring that these are aligned to EFG expected documentation standards.
23. Oversee resourcing, retention, and development in your function/team.
24. Act as an “A” Authorised Signatory
25. Take responsibility for own personal development, in line with agreed annual performance objectives.
Compliance & Risk
26. Contribute to and oversee the implementation of effective risk management frameworks.
27. Ensure clients are administered in line with EFG's risk management framework, structure specific and fiduciary risks are mitigated as appropriate. Comply with all local regulatory requirements including, where appropriate, laws, orders, codes of practice and guidance, Group and local policies and procedures relevant to the Business.
28. Ensure that all CPD requirements are met year on year for both you and all members of your team, and that training and development is relevant.
Qualifications, skills and experience
29. Recognised Professional Qualification -. Accountancy, Chartered Secretary, STEP, Banking, Securities, Compliance or other relevant Table 4 qualification along with relevant experience as defined by the Jersey Financial Services Commission
30. 8 years' relevant finance industry experience working within an offshore financial services organisation in a similar role, with a strong technical understanding of all areas of client administration and fiduciary services.
31. Focussing on the development, maintenance, and growth of the [Division/Function] business, ensure quality levels of client service, consistency and operational efficiency. Ability to manage complexity and lead large-scale initiatives.
32. Comprehensive and detailed understanding of company law, current industry legislation, regulation and working practices and having due regard to corporate governance, compliance, and risk management aspects.
33. A good understanding of company financial management.
34. Experience of managing and leading people, driving a high-performance culture. Ability to communicate with other areas of the business and key stakeholders in a confident and professional manner.
35. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; approachable and accessible with the ability to inspire, motivate and develop others, and manage underperformance quickly and fairly.
36. Proficient in the use of a range of Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
