Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts is delighted to advertise a seconded Lead Practitioner position within the Anaesthetic dept.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a friendly and supportive environment within the Operating Services/Theatre team. You will provide strong clinical leadership to the team and directorate and will assist the Executive team to build relationships across patient pathways and work closely with our partners in Surgical Care Groups to provide high quality patient care.

You will promote a culture where the patient comes first. You will lead by example, challenge our usual practices and be proactive in seeking opportunities for continuously improving high quality care. The role will support the Matron in providing a quality service to all its user and deliver the broad objectives of the clinical teams

Main duties of the job

1. To provide positive team leadership, ensuring a high standard of patient care is delivered in a safe, professional environment.
2. The post holder is responsible for planning the development of the team and for the operational management of staff within a defined team, including appraisals, rotas, recruitment and selection and the supervision of students.
3. The post holder’s duties would reflect a 60% clinical and 40% managerial commitment.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.

Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

The Operating Services has 42 operating theatres across 2 sites providing 24 hour peri operative care within a range of specialties, You could be asked to support at both sites for cover.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

4. RGN, Diploma in Nursing or City and Guilds 752 / ODP NVQ level 3 / Diploma in Operating Department Practice
5. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
6. 1st degree or evidence of working towards

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Managerial experience leading a team
8. Extensive experience in a wide range of surgical specialities.

Desirable criteria

9. Extensive experience working within the relevant specialty.
10. Previous Band 7 experience
11. Previous experience deputising for Lead Practitioner within speciality

Further Training

Essential criteria

12. Relevant short courses e.g. Management Infection Control, H&S, Intermediate Life support
13. Clinical related courses in specialism

Desirable criteria

14. Accredited management training
15. Leadership course

Special skills/Aptitudes

Essential criteria

16. Excellent communication skills with all multidisciplinary team
17. Ability to manage own work and that of others
18. Understanding of performance management within operating theatres

Desirable criteria

19. Excellent Leadership qualities
