The role
Maintenance Engineer (Days)
£50,000
Monday to Friday, 8am5pm
12-Month Fixed Term Contract (Potential to Become Permanent)
Location: Huntingdon
Looking for a Monday to Friday engineering role without the constant breakdown firefighting?
We're looking for a Maintenance Engineer to help improve the performance, reliability, and efficiency of site systems including refrigeration, compressed air, pumps, and utilities.
This is not a typical maintenance role. Rather than spending your days reacting to breakdowns, you'll focus on identifying issues, improving performance, and delivering engineering solutions alongside site engineers and specialist contractors.
The role is offered on a 12-month fixed-term contract to support a major site improvement programme, with potential to become permanent for the right individual.
The Role Maintenance Engineer
As a Maintenance Engineer, you'll work closely with the Engineering and Sustainability teams to improve how key utilities and production systems operate across the site.
You'll spend approximately 50% of your time on the factory floor and 50% in the office, investigating underperforming equipment, supporting improvement projects, and helping deliver practical engineering solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting utilities and plant improvement projects across the site
Working with systems including refrigeration, compressed air, vacuum systems, pumps, HVAC, and process equipment
Investigating underperforming equipment and identifying opportunities for improvement
Reviewing plant performance, operating parameters, and system efficiency
Supporting the implementation of engineering improvements and optimisation projects
Working alongside maintenance engineers, facilities teams, and specialist contractors
Maintaining technical records, schematics, and asset information
Helping improve the reliability, efficiency, and performance of key site utilities
What We're Looking For
We're keen to speak with Maintenance Engineers who enjoy solving problems, improving equipment performance, and getting involved in projects.
You could currently be working as a:
Maintenance Engineer
Site Services Engineer
Utilities Engineer
Facilities Engineer
Multi-Skilled Engineer
Engineering Team Leader
To be successful, you'll ideally have:
A strong engineering background within manufacturing, FMCG, food, or industrial environments
Experience working with utilities or plant systems such as refrigeration, compressors, HVAC, pumps, steam, motors, or similar equipment
The ability to identify faults, diagnose root causes, and engineer practical solutions
Experience reading technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation
A proactive mindset and desire to improve how equipment and systems perform
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both internal teams and external contractors
Why Apply?
Monday to Friday days role
£50,000 FTE salary
Rare opportunity to move beyond reactive maintenance
Work on a major site improvement and optimisation programme
Exposure to refrigeration, compressed air, HVAC, and utilities systems
Blend of hands-on engineering and project work
High level of autonomy and responsibility
Work alongside experienced engineering and sustainability professionals
Genuine opportunity to secure a permanent position for the right individual
This Maintenance Engineer role would suit someone who enjoys understanding how equipment should perform, identifying where improvements can be made, and helping deliver engineering solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and overall site performance.
If you're looking for a Monday to Friday Maintenance Engineer opportunity where you can make a real impact and develop your engineering career, we'd love to hear from you.
