We are recruiting for a Patient Pathway Validator to join us and provide a specialist validation service relating to our Waiting Times. You will be helping us review and maintain the accuracy of our waiting times information at patient level, and supporting clinical teams to reduce waiting times.

The role requires someone with fantastic attention to detail, the ability to work with clinical information systems, understand complex waiting times rules and definitions and communicate clearly and confidently with our mental health community team staff and with patients.

As a waiting times validator, you will be an active member of the Performance & Insights team to improve the information our teams use to manage newly introduced waiting times standards for Mental Health Services and help clinicians understand the new quality indicators.

Main duties of the job

* The post holder will be a member of a small team of waiting times pathway validators.
* To validate patient pathways and work with designated Divisions to drive improvement in reported waiting list accuracy and performance against standards.
* To provide an expert advisory function to clinical teams in the reporting of national waiting times and waiting times rules and waiting times validation techniques
* Provide validation and or data quality support to services making changes to information management processes to manage better waiting times pathways, for example, team changes.
* Support the implementation of new national waiting times reporting by testing reports and providing patient validation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Support a Divisions, or group of Divisions in waiting times validation and pathway management.
* Maintain a thorough and current understanding of the national waiting times standards and rules, ensure staff throughout the Trust are updated with any changes to the rules
* Regularly validate waiting list pathways to ensure they are accurate and amend pathways to correct data quality errors in accordance with agreed validation and clinical governance guidelines. This will involve liaising with clinical teams to arrange for pathways to be updated, where appropriate.
* To understand and apply the waiting times rules to individual pathways.
* To act in such a way as to protect patient confidentiality and staff confidentiality at all times
* Work closely with the Waiting Times Patient Pathway Manager in developing standard operating processes for waiting list validation across the Trust.
* Gain an understanding of how waiting times are captured and managed in the electronic patient record and any new systems that are implemented across the Trust and provide expert support to colleagues in the use of the system to manage patient pathways of care.
* Produce reports from the system (PowerBI) and ensure these reports are easy to use and interpret.
* Validate the data thoroughly to ensure that pathway coding is correct and potential breaches are reported in a timely manner
* Represent the Divisions when required with a view to sharing knowledge on waiting times, data accuracy and targets
* Hold meetings with departments to discuss issues and incorrectly managed processes
* Work with colleagues in the Performance Improvement team in the development and maintenance of a strategy for the future provision and continued accuracy of waiting times information.
* Work as a team to assist colleagues in providing cover for the work of absent colleagues when necessary while managing their workload


Person specification


Qualifications

* Good standard of secondary education; GCSE at Grade C/level 4 or above in Maths and English or evidence of equivalent experience
* NVQ 3 in Business & Administration or evidence of equivalent practical experience
* RSA 3 or equivalent experience and evidence of further practical experience
* European Computer Driving License Certificate


Knowledge/Experience

* Experience of working within an NHS Trust, or equivalent experience in another industry.
* Experience of viewing waiting lists and basic knowledge of referral to treatment (RTT) performance standards or equivalent experience in another industry.
* Experience using Excel
* Experience of using Carenotes or another clinical information systems
* Proven data analysis and report generation skills
