Job Summary
As a Marine Water Quality Officer you will apply technical expertise in marine environments, modelling and data analysis to support evidence‑based decisions. You will assess the impact of discharges on water quality, model bathing water quality and nutrient loads in estuaries, and provide timely answers on a range of technical questions.
Key Responsibilities
* Review reports and summarise key information for decision‑making
* Use data to inform water quality models
* Apply sound records management principles
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection
* Summarise and communicate technical work and escalatation of challenges
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners
* Use initiative to contribute to the work of the team and wider organisation
* Provide timely answers to technical questions
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; professional membership desirable
* Knowledge of water quality and marine environment desirable
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for occasional national meetings
* Experience in data analysis and modelling software
* Proficiency in tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS, and specialist packages (e.g., Mike, Cormix)
* Strong communication skills – able to review complex reports and convey key issues to non‑technical audiences
* Ability to interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection
* Capacity to summarise technical work, escalatation of challenges, and build relationships with partners
* Initiative and teamwork in a dispersed environment
Additional Information
Incident response is part of the role – you will take on incident management duties with full training and support, including optional additional payment and flexible arrangements.
Applications are assessed blind using competency questions. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams within two weeks of the closing date, and shortlisted candidates may be placed on a reserve list for six months.
