Overview

Consultant Ophthalmologist with Interest in Glaucoma – a role at NakedK9 Design, LLC. Based in the Ophthalmology department at the Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust in Truro, Cornwall, you will join the existing team of 12 dedicated Ophthalmologists, with a further 10 Specialty and Specialist doctors. This is a dynamic opportunity to develop services and deliver excellent care, while benefiting from Cornwall’s exceptional lifestyle and a work-life balanced organisation. The appointee will have access to two full theatre sessions per week at the brand new theatre site in St Austell. A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and the Clinical Director and consultant colleagues on behalf of the Medical Director, tailored to the department’s needs and the strengths/interests of the appointee.


Responsibilities

* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of Ophthalmology.
* Share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Ophthalmology Department.
* Teaching and training of junior staff, and opportunity to teach medical students within the University of Exeter Medical School.
* Active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
* Provision, with Specialty Grade and Trust Doctor colleagues, of a service to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
* Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
* Any responsibility that relates to a special interest.
* Professional supervision of other junior medical staff.
* Responsibilities for carrying out teaching (where applicable).
* Participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and continuing professional development.
* Involvement in research (where applicable).
* Where agreed, work on behalf of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust such as domiciliary consultations or services provided by the Trust for other agencies (e.g., the prison service).
* A willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.

Requirements and Qualifications

* Consultant with a background in Glaucoma.
* Professional registration and qualification checks as part of NHS employment.
* Identity checks, employment history and reference checks, work health assessments, criminal record checks and right to work checks as applicable.
* Ability to contribute to teaching and research where applicable.
* Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
