Overview
An established, technology-focused organisation in Oxford is growing its IT operations team to support its 24/7 mission-critical systems. We’re seeking a Server Support Engineer to join the infrastructure team and help maintain reliable, secure, and high-performing Microsoft-based environments.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on technical position, enjoys problem-solving in real time, and wants to play a key role in supporting complex, high-availability infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver first and second-line support across Microsoft-based infrastructure and services.
* Diagnose and resolve incidents affecting servers, virtual environments, and core business applications.
* Monitor system health and performance to ensure maximum uptime and fast incident response.
* Support and maintain environments hosting high-traffic web and e-commerce systems.
* Administer and configure Windows Server, IIS, and Network Load Balancing (NLB) components.
* Manage and maintain virtualized platforms (VMware and Hyper-V).
* Participate in a 4-on / 4-off shift rotation, including both day and night shifts.
* Provide on-call support (approximately 25% of the time) for production emergencies.
* Collaborate with other engineers to enhance system reliability, security, and performance.
* Maintain accurate technical documentation and operational runbooks.
Technical Skills & Expertise
* Strong knowledge of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), IIS, and NLB.
* Proficient in VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V administration.
* Experience supporting Microsoft infrastructure services such as Active Directory, DNS, and Remote Desktop Services (RDS).
* Understanding of e-commerce or high-traffic web environments with thousands of concurrent users.
* Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and quickly adapt to new technologies.
* Familiarity with PowerShell scripting, monitoring tools, and incident management processes is an advantage.
