Position: Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist

Location: Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital – Cardiology Department

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £47,810 to £54,710 per annum

The post holder will perform a comprehensive range of cardiac diagnostic tests and procedures, including advanced specialist investigations. They will be responsible for interpreting results and delivering precise, clinically relevant reports to support medical decision‑making, as well as providing expert supervision and training to junior staff and other healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

* Perform a broad range of procedures in the cardiac catheter lab as part of the multidisciplinary team, including diagnostic coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, right heart catheterisation and PFO/ASD closures. Monitor ECG and pressure tracings throughout procedures, promptly reporting any abnormalities or significant changes to the wider team.
* Support cardiac device implant procedures by monitoring ECG and intra‑cardiac signals to ensure accurate lead placement and promptly reporting any abnormalities or significant changes to the clinical team.
* Lead cardiac device follow‑up clinics, assessing device function, battery status, and making clinically appropriate programming changes to optimise device performance and battery longevity. Device patients are seen either with a consultant or independently, based on their needs and preferences; clinical decisions are discussed with a consultant when necessary.
* Ensure that appropriate Cardiac Device stock is available for implantation procedures through communication with implanting consultants, materials management and device manufacturers.
* Perform, interpret and report all non‑invasive cardiology tests including ECGs, ambulatory ECGs, ambulatory BP, and exercise tolerance tests. All non‑invasive tests must follow national and local guidelines with accurate interpretation and relevant reporting; ambulatory ECG analysis makes up a large part of the department’s daily workload.

The Cardiology Department at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital is seeking a Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist to join our dynamic team. Ideal for a CRM‑accredited professional, the role spans both invasive and non‑invasive cardiology.

You’ll be the Physiologist Point of Contact for the Cardiac Device Service and Cath Lab, while supporting daily operations of our busy non‑invasive diagnostics alongside the Lead Echocardiography Physiologist. Your responsibilities will include:

* Fitting and analysing ambulatory ECGs (AECGs)
* Fitting ambulatory blood pressure monitors (ABPs)
* Leading exercise tolerance tests (ETTs) and supporting stress echos

The successful candidate will lead cardiac rhythm management (CRM) duties, including ICD, CRT, brady device and ILR implantation and follow‑up. They must hold HRUK or equivalent cardiac device accreditation with at least two years’ post‑certification experience, as they’ll often be the sole on‑site expert making independent device‑related decisions.

Key Responsibilities

* Maintain and advance clinical standards in cardiac rhythm management through ongoing training, professional development and specialist qualifications.
* Monitor daily service delivery and recommend improvements to the Head of Department (HOD) to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
* Collaborate with the HOD to ensure safe, timely follow‑up and documentation of cardiac device patients in line with BHRS guidelines, clinical governance standards and local standard operating procedures.
* Maintain accurate records of device implants and follow‑ups to support audit, service improvement and governance.
* Oversee stock control procedures, including standing orders, maintenance contracts and capital equipment procurement, ensuring value and service quality.
* Ensure compliance with MHRA guidelines related to cardiac devices and respond appropriately to regulatory updates.
* Address clinical concerns promptly, maintaining clear communication with consultants and the clinical HOD.
* Contribute to the review and development of departmental and hospital‑wide policies, ensuring all documentation is current and evidence‑based.
* Lead clinical audits within your speciality, identifying trends and implementing service improvements; participate in wider Nuffield audit programmes.
* Deliver high‑quality testing and analysis across invasive and non‑invasive cardiac physiology, including catheter lab procedures, exercise tolerance testing and ambulatory monitoring.
* Provide training, mentorship and competency assessments for junior staff and other healthcare professionals.
* Support business development in cardiology, fostering consultant engagement and promoting Nuffield services through outreach activities such as GP events.
* Uphold departmental quality systems, including medical device management and maintenance, and respond effectively to cardiology‑specific MDAs/MHRAs.
* Manage high‑value equipment, ensuring accurate inventories, timely servicing and appropriate ordering of consumables in line with local policies.
* Contribute to the delivery of departmental workloads and deputise for the line manager during periods of absence.
