The food runner is responsible for communicating orders and information between the front of house and the back of house. They are in charge of delivering food to the correct table at the appropriate time, assisting customers with any issues that may arise, and coordinating with the kitchen staff to properly prioritize orders.
1. Make sure orders are being prepared with correct priority and assist in final prep of the dishes before delivery.
2. Deliver food orders from the kitchen to customer’s tables timely and accurately.
3. Help answer guests’ questions and assist them with any immediate needs.
4. Stock all necessary items needed on the expo line. Make backups of items that could run out mid-shift.
5. Package carryout orders, and delegate prompt delivery.
6. Assist BOH with prep work or FOH with running side work during slow periods.
7. Contribute effectively to a positive guest experience while maintaining a professional attitude and appearance.
8. Must have or be able to obtain an Alaska Food Handler’s Card.
9. Must have a valid alcohol safety card for the State of Alaska.
10. Minimum age of 21 years required to serve alcohol in the State of Alaska.
11. Must pass a pre-employment background check.
12. Minimum age of 18 years required to reside in company housing, where available.
13. Participate in HAP’s sustainability program, "Sustain Alaska & the Yukon," and efforts by actively recycling (where available), reducing waste, and educating guests about our commitment to the environment.
14. Participate in HAP’s safety culture to ensure a safe workplace for all team members and a safe vacation experience for all guests.
15. Be dedicated to delivering excellent customer service to all guests, coworkers, and vendors.
16. Show a dedicated commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
17. Must be eligible to work in the United States. Holland America-Princess is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-2B status).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Ability to organize and prioritize work, maintain attention to time constraints, while working in a team or group environment.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and external influences.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while achieving daily goals.
* Ability to support and comply with company policies, procedures, and guidelines including health and safety standards.
* Ability to stand/walk/work on feet for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
