Overview
My client is a long-established, growing manufacturer and distributor of specialist piping, fittings, valves, sampling systems, and associated equipment, supplying industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, agro-chemicals, and petrochemicals. Their products are used worldwide to safely handle hazardous and corrosive chemicals, and they have an excellent reputation for product quality, service, and long-standing customer relationships.
Due to continued business growth and increased demand, they are looking for a Production Planner to join the team. This is a new role created to improve order throughput times, enhance capacity visibility, and deliver more efficient planning across the organisation.
The Role
The Production Planner will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating production activities to meet customer demand while optimising workflow and resource usage. Working closely with procurement, production, logistics, and quality teams, you’ll ensure smooth operations and on-time delivery of finished goods.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain detailed production schedules to meet customer orders and inventory targets.
* Monitor production progress and adjust schedules for delays or supply shortages.
* Liaise with procurement to ensure timely availability of raw materials and components.
* Coordinate with manufacturing teams to manage capacity, resource allocation, and workload balancing.
* Analyse production data and forecasts to improve efficiency and throughput.
* Generate and distribute production reports, KPIs, and performance metrics.
* Identify and mitigate risks to production timelines and quality.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives.
* Plan and maintain daily supply chain operations, including materials, production, inventory, logistics, customer service, demand management, and order fulfilment.
* Review and maintain appropriate stock levels to meet operating working capital goals.
* Support and coordinate ad-hoc projects.
Requirements
* Proven experience as a Production Planner, Scheduler, or similar role in a manufacturing or supply chain environment.
* Strong understanding of production planning processes, ERP systems, and inventory control.
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and planning software.
* Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
* Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
Desirable
* Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
* Knowledge of MRP systems.
* Qualifications in Supply Chain Management, Planning, or a related field.
