Job Summary

This post is a great opportunity to make a difference to patients, acting with care and compassion you will be able to make a positive impact on the patients experience in hospital.

This is an entry level post which will provide you with invaluable experience to enable you to develop your career in the NHS. There are opportunities to develop additional skills such as venepuncture and for those who have ambitions for a career in nursing this role is a good starting point to develop the basic skills of care.

Main duties of the job

Your role as a Health Care Assistant is to work alongside a Registered Nurse as part of the Ward to provide patient centred care to patients.

Some of your duties include: washing and dressing patients, serving patients meals, assisting with feeding patients when necessary, helping people to mobilise, assisting patients with toileting, bed-making, generally assisting with patients' overall comfort, monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight.

Acting with compassion you will put patients at the centre of all you do. You will communicate effectively with patients and their carers. This role will require you to work variable hours on a rota mainly days but also including nights and weekends.

You will show courage by embracing new ways of working and doing the right thing by the people you care for, including speaking up when you have concerns.

Job responsibilities

* You will assist with washing and dressing patients, using hoists as appropriate.
* You will assist with serving meals and feeding patients, including reporting on their intake and recording on charts as appropriate.
* You will assist with toileting, escorting patients to and from the lavatory and recording outputs where necessary.

* Experience working in an Hospital settings.

Qualifications

Essential

* Basic standard of education including Maths and English.
* Completed the Care Certificate or willing to complete the Care Certificate within the first 3 months

Desirable

* Completed an Healthcare Apprenticeship or equivalent. NVQ in care. Health & Social Care qualification. Phlebotomy Trained
