Security Officer

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are seeking mature, honest, enthusiastic, hardworking and committed individuals who are able to work in a team and as an individual on own initiative. You will be complementing existing security teams across the University Hospital Trust. This will be predominantly based across the Princess Royal and the Royal Sussex County Hospital, or on occasion may be required to perform duties within all premises in University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
In addition to the base rate of pay, this role also attracts further enhancements of approximately £3000 to £4000 per year to account for night and weekend working.
Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds. As such, we are unable to provide sponsorship for this post. Applicants will therefore need to already have the right to work in the UK to be considered. If you do not meet the sponsorship requirements, and you are applying using a Graduate visa as your right to work, you must have a minimum of 18 months remaining on your visa at time of application.
Main duties of the job
You will come into contact with difficult, aggressive and sometimes violent individuals as well as patients and visitors. You will be given formal training in Conflict management & Physical Intervention Techniques. A degree of physical and mental robustness is required. If you have any doubts about your physical abilities or any health problems that will make you more liable to physical or mental harm you should consider carefully whether to apply.
Job responsibilities
Essential requirements for this role are good communication skills, good understanding of written and spoken English, staying calm under pressure and being able to sustain lengthy periods of concentration. Full training will be provided but experience of working in Security in a Healthcare or Higher Education establishment would be advantageous. It is desirable for applicants to possess a full clean category B car driving license, preferably for a minimum of 2 years.
