Contract Role: Mainframe Performance and Capacity Analyst – Banking – Inside IR35
Location: UK (Remote) or Denmark (Hybrid – 10 days/month onsite)

Salt is working with a global consultancy delivering high-level mainframe optimisation services to a major banking client. We are recruiting an experienced Mainframe Performance and Capacity Analyst to support proactive tuning and capacity planning across critical z/OS environments.
This role sits within a Performance Competence Centre, with responsibility for system and application performance diagnostics, workload forecasting, and tooling optimisation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitor, analyse, and tune mainframe system and application performance
2. Conduct capacity forecasting and support infrastructure provisioning
3. Lead performance data analysis and reporting using SMF, RMF, WLM
4. Develop and maintain custom tooling and dashboards
5. Liaise with technical teams to prevent capacity-related issues
6. Create documentation, reports, and performance improvement plans
Essential Skills:
7. 7+ years’ experience in mainframe performance tuning and capacity planning
8. Strong knowledge of SMF, RMF, WLM, and performance management tooling (APA, MXG, SAS)
9. Ability to analyse batch and online application performance
10. Comfortable working in high-availability banking environments
Desirable Skills:
11. Experience with ELK stack or in-house dashboarding tools
12. Coding experience in REXX, Python, Assembler, or PL/1
13. Familiarity with z/OS system internals and workload behaviours
Working Model & Compliance:
14. UK-based contractors: Fully remote. Must work via umbrella (inside IR35)
15. Denmark-based contractors: Hybrid model, 10 days/month onsite
16. Background checks to be completed post-onboarding
