Working arrangements: Any 5 from 7 inc twilight and evening sessions, some agile working. Hours per week: 37. Contract type: Fixed term until 04/10/2026.

About the Post
We’re recruiting to Barnsley Youth Council – Barnsley Young People’s Service in Barnsley. The council prioritises Children’s Services and aims for every child in the borough to achieve their potential, be safe and feel listened to. We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed staff to join our workforce.
Interviews are scheduled for Friday 7th November 2025.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a busy team to engage young people (ages 11 to 24) in having an active voice in the design and delivery of services that affect them, locally, regionally and nationally.
* Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with young people, decision makers, internal and external stakeholders, and partner organisations through meetings, events and sessions in secondary schools, youth groups, and community settings.
* Co-facilitate activities and youth-led sessions to enable young people to articulate their views and participate in discussions and activities.
* Travel independently to various sites across the borough daily, including schools, youth provisions and partner buildings.
* Support the Youth Council and participate in outreach work in the community.
Qualifications and Experience
* Minimum of a relevant Level 2 qualification or a certificate in Youth Work practice (e.g., Youth and Community work or Working with Young People in the secondary age range).
* Ability to work during the day, after school, in the evenings and occasional weekends; overnight residential experience may be required to meet service needs.
* Ability to travel independently to various sites across the borough.
* Experience with and commitment to young people’s voice and current affairs/issues affecting them is desirable.
