MAIN DUTIES:
Overview:
We are looking for a knowledgeable Health & Safety Officer to join our team. In this role, you will provide advisory, compliance monitoring, and inspection services to all employees, managers, and directors, ensuring risks are minimized, and CML operates within legislative requirements, regulations, and codes of practice.
You will offer expert advice on health & safety legislation and statutory frameworks to all employees. You will conduct audits to ensure compliance and compile detailed reports with findings, lessons learned, and future requirements.
The role involves collaborating with managers to investigate accidents or incidents, so strong communication and influencing skills are essential. You will analyze data from audits, inspections, close calls, and reports to inform future activity planning, and assist in reviewing and updating health & safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
You will support employee wellbeing and guide managers to appropriate resources, share good practices and specialist knowledge, and undertake special projects as directed by the Health & Safety Manager and Director.
Requirements:
* NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate or equivalent experience, knowledge, and skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
* Current knowledge of health & safety regulatory requirements, legislation, frameworks, and policies.
* Understanding of relevant national and regional policies, especially in civil engineering, construction, and rail industries.
* Experience working in these sectors is essential, with knowledge in areas such as noise, vibration, etc. Membership of a relevant professional body is a plus.
Roles & Responsibilities:
* Assist site management in implementing and complying with CML's Integrated Management System, promoting continuous HSE improvement.
* Help prepare contract-specific HSE and Risk Management plans to meet client requirements and maintain CML HSE Policies and KPIs.
* Participate in site visits to assess the effectiveness of HSEQ and Risk Management plans, providing reports and follow-up actions.
* Ensure all subcontractors, hired plant, equipment, and suppliers conform to client requirements and CML policies.
* Assist in site inductions, toolbox talks, and skills training, reporting on their effectiveness.
* Support incident and accident investigations, monitor corrective actions, and report on safety statistics and near misses.
* Audit and verify calibration certificates, certifications, and testing validity on site.
* Perform any other duties as reasonably required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
* NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate.
* Minimum 3 years in a similar role.
* Experience in civil engineering, construction, or rail sectors.
* Strong report writing and presentation skills.
* Experience in drafting and implementing risk assessments.
* Willingness to undertake nationwide site visits and inspections.
