An opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialised Clinical Physiologist – Echocardiography to join the Cardio‑Respiratory Department. This post is for Mersey West Lancs and requires that you work flexibly across all sites.
Key Duties
* Provide fully comprehensive, unsupervised reports of a highly professional standard in a range of procedures.
* Use clinical judgement to act on reports in an unsupervised way.
* Have highly specialised knowledge and skill in at least one specialist area and be responsible for the development and delivery of that service.
* Supervise testing in this area and provide clinical supervision of testing staff.
* Develop and implement relevant policies and procedures.
* Produce costs for each procedure and maintain stock control and consumable costs.
* Implement staff training programmes for all levels of staff.
* Peer‑evaluate competency levels and provide measurable improvement.
* Maintain optimal functioning and regular servicing of equipment.
* Initiate research and audit programmes to review services and monitor capacity.
* Provide regular updates to the manager on service progress and re‑design.
* Commit to setting up new services and expanding the Physiologist role into areas traditionally covered by doctors.
* Deputise for the department manager when necessary.
* Participate in out‑of‑hours sessions and, when required, a 24‑hour on‑call emergency rota covering invasive and non‑invasive tests.
* Take on a level of managerial control as designated by the manager during out‑of‑hours or on‑call sessions.
Clinical & Professional Responsibilities
* Deliver clinical skills and knowledge unsupervised across a wide range of basic and specialised clinical procedures.
* Be proficient in a variety of invasive and non‑invasive cardiac procedures.
* Provide high‑quality care for patients, delivering complex information and instruction in a sensitive manner.
* Communicate information concerning patients and their test results, giving advice and recommendations to a wide range of staff groups.
Administrative Responsibilities
* Ensure the accuracy of data quality in line with departmental policies and procedures.
Teaching & Training Responsibilities
* Design and implement training and education programmes in own specialist area.
* Assist with the delivery of education programmes across a broad range of subjects to a variety of staff throughout the Trust.
* Actively participate in the mentorship arrangement and liaise with higher education institutes when required.
Person Specification – Qualifications
* Essential: Degree in Clinical Physiology or equivalent, RCCP registration, ILS qualification, MSCST/master’s level qualification in a specialised field (BSE/NASPE/BPEG/ARTP).
* Desirable: IT qualification, ALS qualification, managerial qualification.
Person Specification – Knowledge & Experience
* Essential: Substantial years of post‑qualification experience, broad knowledge in a wide range of respiratory tests, specialist knowledge in one area, experience supervising staff, participation in on‑call/out‑of‑hours services.
* Desirable: Educational/mentorship experience, managerial experience.
Person Specification – Skills
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and independently.
* Ability to work in a pressured environment using highly technical equipment safely, producing complex unsupervised reports.
* Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients and staff.
* Excellent organisational skills.
