Wigan Council
Support worker
Posted: 1 September
Offer description

You will be part of the team supporting Residents with dementia to live well and age well in a busy residential care home in Leigh. You will provide person-centred care as outlined in individual care plans to help residents lead full and purposeful lives, offering maximum choice, empowerment, and control. You will serve as a role model to staff, providing support and guidance during the day, and will be responsible for decision-making and team leadership.

You will be responsible for the safe administration of medication in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, ensuring high standards of care in a residential setting.

The role requires flexibility to meet the service's needs, including working on a rota that involves unsociable hours and weekends. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential to support residents effectively and lead your team. You should be kind, caring, and knowledgeable about dementia, demonstrating values and compassion at all times. A good sense of humour and enjoyment of participating in resident events are also desirable.

You must be able to respond to incidents and handle emergency situations appropriately.

Wigan Council has been voted 'Overall Council of the Year' at the APSE Awards. We are committed to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment, ensuring your service remains continuous and unbroken between supporting organizations.

The Progress with Unity plan aims to bring about positive change in Wigan Borough over the next decade, leveraging the strengths of our organizations to create fair opportunities and vibrant communities for all residents, children, families, and businesses.

Salary: Grade 5, £17,761 - £19,540 per annum (£13.90 - £15.31 per hour).

Hours: 24.5 hours per week.

We are on a journey to build a workforce that reflects our Borough. We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everyone can bring their authentic selves and feel a sense of belonging. If you want to work for a Council where everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential and make a difference in our neighborhoods, we would love to hear from you!
