IT Integration Engineer

We're looking for an Integration Engineer to help shape the future of digital healthcare at the RUH. In this role, you'll lead on delivering secure, reliable, and standards-based integrations with HL7, FHIR, Mirth Connect, and Health Connect. You'll play a key part in ensuring clinical and administrative systems share accurate, consistent information – making a real difference to patient care. This is an exciting opportunity to combine technical expertise with purpose, contributing directly to our ambitious digital strategy.
Main duties of the job
* Integration Engine Support & Maintenance
o Monitor, support, install, configure, and upgrade the Trust's integration engines, including Mirth Connect and Health Connect.
o Deliver changes and enhancements to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
* Interface Development
o Design, build, and maintain new and existing interfaces using industry standards and tools including HL7, FHIR, SQL, PL/SQL, ODBC calls, XML/XSLT, Windows Batch Files, Web Services, Java, TCL, .NET, and DICOM.
o Support the transition to FHIR-based integration where required.
* Interface Support & Troubleshooting
o Provide technical support for all integration solutions (both engine-based and point-to-point).
o Monitor performance, investigate issues, and work with suppliers and internal teams to apply fixes or improvements.
* Database Support
o Assist with database administration tasks related to integration, including working with external providers for device integration.
o Maintain a detailed understanding of the Trust's data structures, relationships, and flows to support safe and effective data exchange.
Qualifications and Training
* Degree in IT or equivalent technical experience
* Formal certification in HL7, FHIR, or interoperability standards
Knowledge and Experience
* Extensive knowledge of HL7 2.x, HL7 v3, FHIR
* Experience with FHIR integration projects in a live NHS setting
* Experience using Mirth Interfacing Engine in an enterprise organisation
* Experience using Intersystems Health Connect Interfacing Engine in an enterprise organisation
* Previous experience working within an NHS Trust
