All about the Role

We are looking for an experienced and forward thinking Advanced Public Health Analyst to join our Public Health Intelligence team. This is a key role supporting Peterborough City Council and wider system partners to improve the health and wellbeing outcomes across our population.

You’ll use your expertise in epidemiology, statistics and population health to shape decision making across the local system. Your work will span everything from analysing complex health and care data, to leading the analytical input into Joint Strategic Needs Assessments, to identifying and understanding health inequalities across our communities.

All about our Team

Join Peterborough City Council’s Performance and Intelligence team – a forward-thinking service at the heart of strategic decision‑making and transformation. As part of this innovative team, you’ll contribute to shaping the future of public services through high‑impact data analysis, performance reporting, and intelligence‑led insights. The team leads on developing Power BI dashboards, managing corporate KPIs, and delivering strategic frameworks that inform policy and service delivery across the Council. With a strong focus on collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement, the P&I team is committed to empowering services with the tools and intelligence they need to drive positive outcomes for residents. This role collaborates closely with the Public Health team.

All about You

You’ll bring strong technical expertise, curiosity, and a commitment to improving population health. You’ll be confident working with complex datasets, applying epidemiological and statistical methods, and communicating insights clearly to a wide range of audiences.

You’ll thrive in a collaborative environment, working across organisational boundaries and influencing senior stakeholders. You’ll also be comfortable challenging assumptions, shaping strategy, and driving innovation in how we use data to improve outcomes.

* A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (or equivalent experience) such as public health, epidemiology, informatics, statistics or information science.
* Experience of applying statistical, analytical and epidemiological skills – ideally in a public health context.
* Strong judgement in selecting appropriate analytical methods and interpreting complex information.
* Experience of using analytical tools such as R, Python, SQL and Power BI.
* Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex findings clearly and persuasively.
* The ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and proactive approach.
* Experience of partnership working across health, local government or related sectors.

You’ll also be able to represent Public Health Intelligence at local, regional and national meetings, and support the development of colleagues through line management or mentoring.

All about our Benefits

We value our colleagues and have developed a number of benefits in addition to our generous annual leave starting at 25 days + bank holidays, sick pay and local government pension scheme.

* Access to a range of benefits via our Employee Benefits Platform, including in‑store and online discounts as well as our Cycle to Work and Home & Electronics schemes
* Buy up to 10 days additional annual leave (pro‑rata)
* Access to car lease scheme
* Take your bank holidays flexibly to better suit your personal circumstances
* Make Additional Voluntary Contributions (Shared Cost AVCs) to your pension with tax and National Insurance savings
* Access to development opportunities including apprenticeships to support your personal and professional growth
* Paid volunteering hours each year so you can make a positive impact on our community during your normal working day
* Access to our equality, diversity and inclusion network
* Opportunities to receive Employee Recognition Awards
